Two Small Things. Blogged by Tentative on 12 August 2008

Good afternoon! I am a little late posting this, but better late than never =)

So firstly, as requested by a few people, we now have a plugin which deters camping. There was a lot of talk about the Campometer plugin, but to be honest I think that sucks - because it can't tell the difference between camping, being afk, tactical/acceptable camping, etc. So I did a search and found a nice "Camper Zone" plugin, which lets us specify locations on the map, which teams aren't allowed to camp inside, and it lets us specify how long to let them be there before slapping.

The 3 Camp Zones are:

1. CT Tower, 20 seconds for CTs. Terrorists can stay on tower as long as they wish.
2. Upper Vent, 15 seconds for Terrorists. CTs can stay as long as they wish.
3. Hostage Room, 10 seconds for Terrorists, CTs can stay as long as they wish.

We've been using this for a few days now and I think it is working really well.

Secondly, the other day I wanted to get to someones Steam Community page and add them to my friends list - unfortunately the new system for adding people to your friends list in Steam sucks. You need to know someones Steam Username to be able to do it. The problem with that is that there is no way to add to your friends list by Steam ID - and I think there really should be.

Im not sure if others share my frustrations or not, but I decided to fix this problem anyway. If you go to http://www.eurohangout.com/convert you will see what I call a "Steam ID to Steam Community Page Converter" - on this page you simply enter someones Steam ID (formatted like: STEAM_0:0:20000000), click Convert, and you will be presented with a link to the persons profile and a link to add them to your Steam Friends.

Note: Unfortunately since I added the "Add to steam friends" thing this morning, I haven't been able to test it. To test it I would need to have Steam open, but I don't have steam on my work PC. So if that doesn't work yet, don't shout at me =(

phpBB3. Blogged by Tentative on 22 July 2008

You may have noticed the forum being down sporadically over the last few days, its because I've been in the process of changing our forum from phpBB version 2, to phpBB version 3. There are a nice lot of new features, but unfortunately not that many styles yet. I personally like the new look but it is by no means the way it will stay.

If you spot any problems, please let me know!

Demo Hosting. Blogged by Tentative on 28 June 2008

Hi Guys.

This message is to let you know about a great demo-hosting service. Currently, people use a combination of Rapidshare, Megaupload, and various other sites - all of which seem to have waiting times, download limits, etc. It really isn't ideal, so I have decided to do something about it.

Dotdem.com is a simple concept - choose a demo, click upload, get a link. No adverts, no waiting times, no download limits. The website is still a beta version at the moment, meaning that there is a chance you may encounter some problems - if so please make us aware of them.

That website again is DotDem.com

Thanks,
EH Team.

New Website... Again!. Blogged by Tentative on 08 June 2008

You read it correctly, yet another website design. "Why?" I hear you ask. Basically, I had nothing to do at work one afternoon so I was playing around in Photoshop and created what I thought was a very sexy design for a website, I then looked at the old Euro Hangout Website and thought to myself "

* Obviously, a new look (which I hope you all agree is nicer)
* The news area on the old website wasn't updated too often, mainly because the old site itself didn't have a great "news" area... just a few little boxes on the homepage. This site has adapted more of a blog/news feel which is integrated with the forum, to allow comments from users. Im hoping this will make it easier and more worthwhile to update and post latest news.
* Report a cheater. Now you don't have to sign up to the forums and make a post if there is a cheater you want to report, simply visit our "Report a cheater" page, and fill out the form. Note: This feature is not fully implemented yet.
* Other Projects. There is now going to be a page for any other web-based projects that a member of the Euro Hangout family is involved with.
* With that said, I urge you to keep posting on the forum, use the website and get the word out. Thanks for your continued support!

Nade Spamming. Blogged by Tentative on 08 June 2008

As a lot of you know, we have been having problems with users nade spamming. The problem with this, is that when there is an admin online we can stop them, but if we get a nade spammer reported to us... we don't know what to do. It's unfair to ban someone for nade spamming, especially when they didn't get a warning for it.

For a while we have been looking for some sort of plugin that will automatically punish people who see fit to throw a lot of grenades. There are 2 plugins that exist, both of which we couldn't use. One of these plugins had a glitch which allowed users to slap themselves around the map by setting up binds to buy grenades and repeatedly pressing the button, and the 2nd of the plugins had a glitch which meant that any server hosted on Linux (such as ours) would crash after about 30 minutes. This is why we don't have a nade spam prevention plugin.

However, that will all change as of tommorow because a new plugin has been created by a guy called "hoboman" from the AlliedMods forum. This plugin has been tested and actually works perfectly on Linux servers! If for some reason you wish to view the plugin submission on the AlliedMods forum, follow this link: Hobo Nade Management.
